About the Mitutoyo Surftest 211
The Surftest 211 is an early-generation portable surface roughness tester from Mitutoyo, predating the current SJ-series. It combines a benchtop-style drive unit with a standard stylus detector probe for Ra/Rz roughness measurement, and was widely deployed on shop floors before Mitutoyo's move to the fully integrated SJ-210/310/410 handheld line.
These units remain functional and are still calibratable against reference specimens, making them a common find in the used-equipment market for buyers who need a working roughness checker without the cost of a current-generation instrument.
