About the Zeiss UMC 850
The UMC 850 is a legacy Zeiss bridge-type CMM with an 850×1200×600 mm measuring range, manufactured from the mid-1980s onward and sold across roughly a decade of production. It predates Zeiss's current Contura/Prismo/Accura naming by a generation, and remains a durable, mechanically straightforward machine still turning up at plant closures and equipment sales worldwide.
Its main appeal today is cost: a well-maintained UMC 850 delivers reliable manual or basic-CNC dimensional inspection at a fraction of the cost of a new compact-class CMM, making it a common choice for buyers who need a working machine for less-critical, general-tolerance inspection work.
