About the Mitutoyo Series 517 Granite Surface Plate
Granite surface plates provide a flat, stable reference surface that resists wear, warping, and thermal drift far better than cast iron. Mitutoyo's Series 517 plates are available in multiple flatness grades (00, 0, 1, 2) and a wide range of sizes, sized to match the calibration lab's throughput and available floor space.
The plate forms the base for nearly every other calibration-lab operation — height gauge verification, comparator setup, and general precision layout all reference back to the plate's certified flatness.
