GEM Systems GSM-8
An early proton precession magnetometer from GEM Systems, predating the Overhauser-based GSM-19 line that succeeded it as the company's flagship product.
Refurbished Absolute Certified Surplus
This model has been discontinued by the manufacturer. PartnerGeometrics sources it through the used and refurbished market — available as Refurbished, Absolute Certified, or Surplus only.
About the GEM Systems GSM-8
The GSM-8 was part of GEM Systems' early proton precession magnetometer line, before the company's later development of Overhauser-effect instruments (GSM-9 and the current GSM-19 series). As a proton precession design, it measures the Larmor precession frequency of protons in a polarized fluid, giving an absolute, drift-free reading of total field strength.
Units still circulate on the used-equipment market and remain functional for basic total-field reconnaissance survey work, base-station deployment, or as a low-cost training instrument, though they lack the faster sampling and lower power draw of the Overhauser instruments that succeeded them.
